In terms of grooming, dogs are considered puppies until the age of 6 months. This is due to their fur is different from their adult coat and needs to be cared for differently
This is the majority of their life after 6 months of age. Grooming services for this age group is where we can fully style your dogs hair to your desire and our grooming process is focused on each dogs specific needs and capability.
In this early stage of their life it is important to introduce your puppy to grooming. Once your puppy turns 3 months old they are ready for their first grooming experience.
What we introduce our puppies to in this early stage leaves a far larger imprint on them than their later years. An early introduction to the grooming experience will teach them to be comfortable with being handled for grooming, they will also better learn how to be social with other dogs and people
Grooming requires us to use sharp tools to complete a full grooming process. Introducing your puppy to grooming early will give your groomer a chance to teach your puppy to be less fidgety and more comfortable with the process while we manage their coat.
Puppies need to go the longest period without a full haircut, this is due to their different coat. Puppy coats are very delicate and different than their adult coat. It is important to prevent matting and cut only very minimal hair in your puppies coat. Allowing your puppy to become matted or cutting their hair too soon has an elevated potential of negatively affecting their adult coat such as they new coat growing in patchy or their pattern changing.
For our puppies we offer limited services. Puppies are eligible for puppy grooms and puppy baths only. After 6 months of age they are then able to be scheduled for a full groom. This allows us to safely train your puppy so they will learn to be comfortable with the grooming process.
After 6 months of age is when your dogs fur is ready for styling. It is important to maintain a regular grooming schedule to prevent matting and keep their skin and fur in top condition.
Maintaining a regular grooming schedule allows your dogs coat to be maintained well and prevent matting. During the grooming process we are able to see through your dogs coat and directly to the skin. This allows us to report back any abnormal findings from grooming your dog.
Matted fur may seem like just some tangled fur. The truth is, matted hair is more than just some tangles. When your dogs fur becomes matted it can become very uncomfortable for your dog as just them moving can pull on the hair folicle and be painful when this happens. If matting is allowed to become tight to the skin, it can result in the need for a vet visit as this prevents oxygen from getting to the skin and can lead to hot spots and even an emergency visit to the vet. The dematting process can equally be as uncomfortable for your dog and can potentially lead to emergency vet visits as hematomas can be caused by removing severe matting from various areas such as the ears. With frequent professional grooming and brushing at home will prevent the majority of matting.
In your dogs adult years, their coat is fully primed for styling to your desire. The best part of this time of their life is, at the end of the day it is just fur and will grow back. whether you like a breed specific groom or want to play around and be creative, you can almost always change it up.

Once your dog reaches their golden years and becomes a senior puperzen their grooming needs start to change and we focus more on keeping them comfortable rather than trying to find the perfect show cut.
As your dog ages they can become less tolerant to the grooming experience and sometimes they are unable to stand still for their groom. Rather than trying to get the perfect cut for them we focus more on grooms that will keep them comfortable during the grooming process and afterwards.
In your dogs senior years we reccommend having them groomed just often enough to prevent matting as their skin and fur start to thin out. Brushing at home is highly recommended to maintain their coat to keep them comfortable at home.
Matting can be a serious health issue for any dog. Some light tangles in your dogs coat that can be pulled out by hand or brushed out typically aren't an issue. However, if matting goes unchecked, it can create havoc on your dogs health. senior dogs need extra care to ensure their coat doesn't become matted. The de matting process is typically uncomfortable for any dog. With senior dogs, their tolerance to the process is likely much lower than younger dogs and their skin could be thinner in their older age, which the de matting process can lead to further issues.
